城镇化具体表现为两个方面：一是受生产力发展所决定的自然历史过程；二是人们的生存方式改变的过程。城镇化带给人们一个全新的生活方式。城镇化在草原文化区的推进也是社会历史发展的必然趋势，由此引发了草原制度习俗文化的传承与革新的问题。当代能够代表草原文化的主体民族主要是保持着游牧生活方式的蒙古族，他们所代表的草原文化是生态文化，因而，即使是在现代城镇化的进程中也具有传承价值，这主要表现在他们所具有的物质生活方式、精神生活方式和社会交往方式各方面所具有的内在价值上。以新巴尔虎左旗阿木古郎镇的巴音塔拉嘎查为例，可以观察到城镇化进程中草原文化的制度习俗文化是如何进行自我调适的，即传承和革新的。
