修白是当代文坛能以比较清醒的姿态坚守中短篇小说创作阵地的作家之一。新世纪以来，修白在观察着时代变迁与社会生活的同时从中发现问题，努力在艺术形象的性格内涵以及人与社会、人与人的关系纠缠中让人物体验与探索生存真相与人性之恶，并由此直抵当代人心文化深层结构的人生形态。更为重要的是，她不仅以审视“恶”来遏止“恶”，而且还借助自我内省与忏悔、心灵净化与修复人性的尊严等，来实现当代人的自我救赎。修白小说多变的叙事方式与灵动的深刻寓象，值得研究者和读者继续期待她带来更多更大的惊喜。

XIU Bai is one of the writers who take a sober attitude toward and stick to novella writing in contemporary literary cir-cle. In the new century, XIU Bai finds problems in her observation of time and social life changes, and tries to let her literary fig-ures experience and explore the truth of life and the evil of human nature, through her depiction of their personality, and of the intermingled relationship between man and man, between man and society. By doing so, her writing directly points to the deep structure of contemporary life and culture. More importantly, besides her efforts to prevent“evil” by inspecting“evil”, she ad-vocates self-salvation of contemporaries with the help of self-introspection, confession, spiritual purgation and restoration of human dignity. XIU Bai’ s flexibility and vividness of narration is worth both researchers’ and readers’ expectation for more liter-ary surprise.
