In Ming and Qing dynasties, saltyards in Guangdong moved from Pearl River Delta to the east and west coastal areas of Pearl River Delta. In the early Qing, Huizhou Fu and Chaozhou Fu in the east of Guangzhou, and Gaozhou Fu in the west of Guangzhou became the new center of salt production, which was later reinforced by the reform of purchasing salt with money from state treasury in the Kangxi reign.
