庚辰本《红楼梦》第十九回脂批中评论贾宝玉“情不情”，黛玉“情情”。其实“情情”也可用在宝玉的身上。宝玉的成长可看作“情不情”向“情情”的转化过程。这一转化过程以三个女性(金钏、晴雯、黛玉)的死亡为例，宝玉由泛情转向钟情再转向移情，这种不彻底性显示了宝玉人物形象的局限。

In the Geng Chen version ofTheDreamofRedMansions,Zhiyanzhai’s review on the nine-teenth chapter comments that Jia Baoyu is characterized with “sentimental love”and Lin Daiyu is charac-terized with “faithful love”.However,as a matter of fact,Jia Baouu is partly characterized with “faithful love”as well.The transformation of Jia Baoyu from “sentimental love”to “faithful love”can be regarded as the growth of Jia Baoyu.The transformation is featured from the death of three female characters,Jin Chuan,Qing Wen and Lin Daiyu,which demonstrates Jia Baoyu from universal love to faithful love and to empathic love.This lack of thoroughness shows the limitations of the character Jia Baoyu.
