电影作为一种文化产业，必定与时代的特征，包括政治、经济、社会生活的发展相关联。外国电影对当时民国时期的电影传播和宣传产生深远的影响，体现了国际性；民族意识的觉醒，推动着民族主义在民国电影业有着深入的体现。时代因素、社会因素、民众因素，都使得民国电影体现中西交融性。中国社会逐渐呈现出了中国传统文化艺术形式与西方文化艺术形式并存的格局。
