A revised vertical segmentation method that calculating the excess capacity of compound channel is discussed in this paper.It can meet the conditions that the average flow rate mainly stays the same in a floodplain river.It is expected that the vertical segmentation can be used to define the compound channels and required parameters, which can be provided for future related engineerings.
