It introduced the basic principle of the single sample compliance method in this article. Furthermore, the application of this method in different fracture toughness test was systematically contrasted and analyzed. The single sample compliance method used elastic compliance technology to obtain different data points in fracture toughness resistance curve by one test sample. This method is with strong theoretical foundation, the calculation process is complex, involves test compliance correction, crack propagation size calculation and fracture toughness formula derivation, etc. To improve and perfect the single sample compliance method is beneficial to promote the development of all kinds of fracture toughness test method, is conducive to conveniently and accurately obtain the fracture toughness value of pipeline steel and circumferential weld, which is with great significance for pipeline steel welding technology development and circumferential weld performance evaluation.
