Suction hopper dredgers are characterized by the complex operation conditions and the complicated conifguration. Furthermore the environmental conditions of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River increase the diffculty of the conifguration of the power system for the suction hopper dredgers. Based on the generator conifguration of the conventional suction hopper dredges under the special dredging conditions and the harsh environmental conditions, this paper analyzes the power demand of a suction hopper dredger under the different work conditions, discusses its generator conifguration in detail, and achieves the optimized generator conifguration scheme for the aim of high effciency, energy saving and redundancy.
