The COURSE 50 technology consisting of ironmaking process in BF by introducing hydrogen and the relevant supporting process as well as the process for CCS from BF gas is described. Meanwhile the current situation of the developments on the COURSE 50 technology is discussed, concerning the laboratory-based research results on the ironmaking process in BF by introducing hydrogen, experiments and experimental results based on the small blast furnace in Sweden, the latest progress of R&D on both the technology for improving the quality of coke oven gas and the Hypercoal technology, the current situation of R&D on both the process for separating and recovering CO2 from BF gas and the relevant supporting process as well as the research subjects of the COURSE 50 programme from 2013 to 2017. At last it is concluded that some supporting processes are of great strategic significance for improving the competitiveness of an enterprise and promoting the sustainability development of the iron&steel industry.
