造林更新要遵循一定的技术原则，以此综合提高苗木质量。目前我国主要通过人工更新造林、天然更新造林、人工促进天然更新造林的方法，坚持可持续发展、适地适种原则、目的性原则、扩大混交林原则、提高成活率原则，来扩大森林面积，促进生态环境良性发展。
