Through design of the shore power system high voltage shore based device for a 50,000 DWT bulk carrier, this paper studies the safety and protection requirements of high voltage shore power system and its configuration. Especially in the safety interlock, by electrical and mechanical interlocking combination, the regulatory and functional requirements are met. In addition, through suitable equipotential connection design, the personal and equipment safety protection is assured.
