依据帝讳字来判断古籍版本是版本鉴定的重要手段。明清帝讳字在文中有的是避讳字，有的不是避讳字，一定要判断准确；它们起着不同的作用，有的是决定作用，有的是佐证作用，还有的是作者书写或是刻书人的习惯，而不是避讳字，对于这些务必析离清楚；古代亦有代用字，那是约定俗成的，史书上有文字记载的，只是到了现代成了难理解的问题了，弄清这些，对于古籍版本的鉴定尤为重要。
