基于一种理性的反思，《乌托邦的大学》批判了大学中盛行的工业化、专门化、哲学多样化、政治与社会的同质化等现象及其后果，并审慎地提出了一种乌托邦大学的构想。然而，该书用意却不尽于此。《乌托邦的大学》中贯注了一种“古希腊三哲”的遗风，充满了对苏格拉底式的探寻真理的热爱。以“乌托邦”为名实则促使大学人对大学的Idea的理性沉思与热切希望。在此沉思和希望中，大学人实现对自身的反思与精神的升华。《乌托邦的大学》重启大学人对自身存在的反思与特有品性的坚守。

Basing on rational thoughts,the book of the University of Utopia has critiqued such ideas and practices of industrialization,specialization,philosophical multiplies,social homogenization which are current at universities. Such ideas and practices produced very bad results. In this book,R. Hutchins suggested an ideal of Utopia on a University delibera-tively. But this is not the purpose of him. The book is based on a spirit of Ancient Greece Philosophers including Socrates,Plato and Aristotle that is in pursuit of truth. Although using the name of Utopia,but the author wants to en-courage us thinking over the university with a strong hope. In this way, we fulfill self-reflection and self-promotion. The book relights the passion that make us think about ourselves and stick our unique characters.
