俄国修筑中东铁路妨碍了日本在中国东北的称霸计划，成为日俄战争爆发的一个重要原因。日俄战争结束后，帝国主义各国在远东的力量对比关系不断发生变化，引发了列强争夺中东铁路管理权的新一轮较量。同时，中东铁路的修筑是俄国财政危机的一个原因，导致国内矛盾激化，这些矛盾在第一次世界大战中总爆发，最终导致沙皇政府的灭亡和远东政策的破产。

Russia’s construction of the Chinese Eastern Railway hindered Japan’s plan to take over Northeastern China, which served as a crucial cause for the breakout of the Russo-Japanese War. After the end of the War, continuous changes occurred to the balance of power among the imperialist countries in the Far East, leading to a new round of battles over the management rights of the Chinese Eastern Railway. In the meantime, the construction of the railway partially resulted in the financial crisis of Russia and the escalation of domestic conflicts which broke out in WWI and ultimately led to the fall of the Czar Government and the failure of its Far East policy.
