Objective To investigate the status of knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of the prevention of eye complications among ICU nurses, and to provide standardized measures to reduce the incidence of eye complications. Methods A total of 450 nurses from 21 ICUs in Guangdong were recruited and investigated with a self-designed questionnaire. Results The scores of ICU nurses’ KAP about the prevention of eye complications were 72.15±13.08, 86.80±9.30 and 65.64±10.12 respectively. The scores of attitude and practice were significantly different among nurses with different educational background and professional titleS ( P<0.05). Conclusion ICU nurses hold positive attitude toward the prevention of eye complications, but their knowledge and practice needs to be further improved. It is necessary to strengthen the training of ICU nurses about eye complication knowledge and develop standardized guidelines to reduce the incidence of eye complications in critically ill patients.
