《老子》第十三章中的虚词“若”用法有二：所连接的后项是前项的结果，相当于“则”、“乃”；所连接的后项是前项的原因，相当于“因为”。与王本《老子》“贵以身为天下”相应的各出土版本应以马王堆帛书甲乙本“贵为身于为天下”为最优，这是一个结构相对复杂的比较句。“爱以身为天下”是由动词“爱”和短语“以身为天下”构成的述宾结构，“爱”意为“吝惜”。该章以“身”对一个人最重要这一事实为出发点，推导出只有更爱惜自己的人才可以讬之以天下的结论。

The conjunction word ruo(若)in the thirteenth chapter of Lao - tzu has two grammatical meanings. One is introducing results,and the other is introducing reasons. It is crucial for the correct understanding of the chapter. 〝贵为身于为天〝 is the best edition in all the unearthed documents. It is an ancient and complex comparative sentence. 〝爱以身为天下〝 is a verb object structure composed of the verb ai(爱)which means grudge and the phrase 〝以身为天下〝. In the thirteenth chapter of Lao - tzu,the author believe that as a person,his body is most important for him. Based on this concept,the author deducts a conclusion that the person who cherishes himself most is qualified as the leader of people.
