天然气液化制冷工艺大致可以分为三种：阶式制冷、混合制冷剂制冷和膨胀制冷。现在国内应用最多的是混合制冷剂制冷，它有设备少、流程简单、投资省等优点。这种液化流程的操作弹性很大，当生产能力降低、周围环境温度或原料气气质发生变化时，可以通过调整混合制冷剂组分及混合制冷剂压缩机进出口压力，也能使天然气高效液化。高效的利用混合制冷剂，对于生产单位既能降低能耗又能提高液化率，因此研究混合制冷剂在液化天然气中的应用是很有必要的。
