Knee joint disease is usually accompanied by quadriceps atrophy.Quadriceps atrophy and muscle weakness are widely existed in knee diseases,such as knee osteoarthritis,anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus impair-ments.Moreover,quadriceps play an important role in knee extension and stability.Quadriceps disuse,neuromuscular ac-tivation deficits and muscle metabolism abnormal mostly due to quadriceps atrophy and muscle weakness.To find sim-ple and accepted methods for exercising quadriceps is very important.There are a lot of studies revealing that,isometric exercise and isotonic exercise can prevent decreased quadriceps femoris muscle performance,are the most commonly used methods in clinic.This paper summarizes the latest progress of related issues in this field.
