晁补之词名卓著，享誉士林。其词造境扩大，气象壮阔，物我交融，深情绵邈；艺术手法灵活，不拘一格，或借景以寄情，或托物以言志，词作喜运用历史典故，化用前人诗句，注重语句的锤炼，因而含蓄隽永，韵致独具。晁补之词风或刚健劲朗，或阴柔妩媚，或凄艳流美，或质朴明丽，有时又是兼而有之，呈现出一种刚柔相济、摇曳多姿之态。
조보지사명탁저，향예사림。기사조경확대，기상장활，물아교융，심정면막；예술수법령활，불구일격，혹차경이기정，혹탁물이언지，사작희운용역사전고，화용전인시구，주중어구적추련，인이함축준영，운치독구。조보지사풍혹강건경랑，혹음유무미，혹처염류미，혹질박명려，유시우시겸이유지，정현출일충강유상제、요예다자지태。
As a famous poet,the poems by Chao Buzhi consist of wide realm and deep feeling.The flexible art is one of the most important features embodied in his poems,demonstrated by various artistic styles.Some-times he presented his emotion through the description of the scenes;sometimes he expressed his ambition through the description of an object.Chao liked to apply historical allusions in his poems,changed the previous verse by other writers for his own use,and considered the sentences again and again before putting into his po-em.Henceforth,his poems are implicitly meaningful and uniquely charming.For Chao’s poems,the style is sometimes strong and energetic,sometimes soft and charming,sometimes chilly but beautiful,and sometimes simple but bright,showing a combination of hardness and softness,swaying style and features.
