The paper analyzes the public signs translation from the perspective of Newmark's theory of text types.As far as Newmark is concerned,public signs fall into the type of vocative texts.To achieve the in-tended effect of the public signs,during the translation process translator should pay more attention to the readers'reaction and adopt more flexible translation methods.
