顺应论认为语言的使用过程始终伴随着交际双方的选择和适应。从本质上来说，翻译的过程也是译者不断进行选择和适应的过程。就定语从句的汉译而言，译者既要忠实于原文，同时要确保译文通顺，这就意味着要顺应汉语的语言习惯和要求。本文拟从顺应论的角度诠释英语定语从句汉译的不同处理手法。

According to the Adaptation theory, the language use is always accompanied by the selecting and adap-ting effort of the participants.As a matter of fact, a translator also needs to make choices and adaptations in the course of translation in his translating process.When the translation of attributive clause into Chinese is concerned, the translator is supposed to achieve the faithfulness to the source language and the smoothness in the target lan-guage, which requires the adaptation to the Chinese language.This paper probes into the translation of attributive clause from the approach of the adaptation theory.
