Lipoprotein lipase is a key enzyme of triglycerides metabolism.Mutations will cause variations in the structure and function of lipoprotein lipase gene,affecting the lipolytic function by altering its activity and level,which further affects the whole body lipid metabolism and distribution.Recent studies have found that these mutations are associated with hypertriglyceridemia,obesity,diabetes mellitus and so on.Lipoprotein lipase may become a novel target for the early prevention and treatment of these diseases.
