在某种程度上，“现代”意味着现在和过去的断裂。阿来《尘埃落定》以一个傻子的视角，描绘了一个土司家族在历史前进道路上兴衰消亡的过程，体现了与旧有的社会、政治、经济、人物、观念、生活方式断裂的过程中人们对自我身份的迷失、对快速到来的历史转型的恐慌和无奈。《尘埃落定》也正是在这种现代性上展示了诗性叙述中的困惑之美、高度现代性下的狂欢之美、镜像与电影技巧的融合之美、源于民间叙事的魔幻之美。

In someway“modernity”means the breakage of the present with the past. From the perspective of a fool, A Lai’s The Dust Has Settled depicts the process of the rise and fall of a headman’s family, showing the loss of the people’s identity in the process of breakage from the older society, politics, economy, people, values and life style as well as the confusion and inability to the approaching historical transformation. It is through this kind of modernity that The Dust Has Settled displays the beauty of confusion in poetic narration, beauty of revel?ry in high modernity, beauty of blending of image and movies and the beauty of magic originated from the folk narration.
