刘咸炘的赋论包括源流、结构、旁衍等多个方面。由于注重辨章学术、考镜源流，因此其论赋能高屋建瓴，提出不少与前人所说不同的、具有启发意义的观点；但重视汉魏六朝之作，而轻视唐后之赋，也反映了那一时代学人普遍的思想局限。

LIU Xian?xin’ s Fu theory includes aspects such as source, structure and its braches. Due to his strict academic attitude, his theory takes the strategically advantageous position and puts forward many unprecedented and inspiring views. However, his emphasis on works of Han?wei and Six dynasties, together with his neglect of Fu after the Tang dynasty demonstrates the limitation of scholars of his times.
