The problems of sound-pressure-based sound insulation measurement were first analyzed, and a sound-intensity-based sound insulation measuring technique was proposed, which was analyzed to be advantaged at higher signal-noise ratio, suppressing flanking transmission and determining sound leakages. The applicability of determining sound leakages was verified by in-site measurement of a door before and after leakage sealing. The technique is believed to provide a powerful tool for green building assessments and offer more valuable information for improving sound insulation of buildings.
