On the basis of conveying the meaning and transferring artistic conception,XU Yuanchong’s English version of Elegies of tje Soutj reflects the features of the following points:transference of artistic conception by borrowing different forms of English poetry in order to achieve a new unity of content and form in translation;harmony of form and artistic conception by keeping the beauty of form in translation of antithesis,parallelism and irregular lengths of the source text;conversion,compensation and de-letion are used to pursue artistic conception by neglecting the form.
