This paper introduces Outokumpu New Concept Ferrochrome Production Process. The feature of process is the combination of preheating kiln (OPKTM) and steel belt sintering (SBSTM), and it integrates advanced technology of mining, beneficiation, steel belt sintering (SBSTM), preheating, and ferrochrome smelting into one plant. It has obvious economical, environmental and social benefits. Lessons can be learnt from the process, but it should be noted that the investment of steel belt sintering is very big and equipment utilization ratio is very low. Considering that smart power grid is being under construction in China and the amount of distributed green energy source will increase in future. DC furnace, as the option that could use fine ores directly, is a priority selection.
