与曾国藩并称“曾左”的湘军名将左宗棠，以收复新疆、开发西北的历史功勋而名垂青史。他的家教思想同样丰富、感人。其主要内容有：要求子孙刻苦读书明理，贵在力行致用；要永保寒素家风，力戒各种恶习；坚持廉洁奉公，慷慨行善济困。左宗棠的家教思想，不仅对今天我国一般的家庭教育有着重要的启示意义，而且对各级领导干部、特别是高级干部的家庭教育则有着更直接更现实的启示意义与教育作用。
여증국번병칭“증좌”적상군명장좌종당，이수복신강、개발서북적역사공훈이명수청사。타적가교사상동양봉부、감인。기주요내용유：요구자손각고독서명리，귀재역행치용；요영보한소가풍，력계각충악습；견지렴길봉공，강개행선제곤。좌종당적가교사상，불부대금천아국일반적가정교육유착중요적계시의의，이차대각급령도간부、특별시고급간부적가정교육칙유착경직접경현실적계시의의여교육작용。
Zuo Zongtang, one of the two famous Xiang general, whose name was as famous as Zeng Guofan, the other Xiang general in Qing Dynasty,was crowned with eternal glory because of his historical contribution to the recovery of Xinjiang and the development of the northwestern China. His thoughts in family education is also rich and inspiring. Its main idea in family education included that his children and grandchildren should work very hard and be well-educated, should keep the tradition of an impoverished family forever and keep out of all kinds of evil habits,should be honest in performing his official duties and do something good for others and help those in need. Zuo Zongtang’s thoughts in family education have great importance of enlightenment not only to the ordinary family education in China nowadays but also to the leading cadres at all levels,especially the high-ranking officials. To them,it has even more direct and more realistic enlightenment and educational function.
