以往的研究者基本上是从阶级分析的角度来解读柔石的《为奴隶的母亲》，笔者试图从女性民俗的视角出发，考察春宝娘是如何在典妻的民俗下被不断地塑造和加固性别角色及遭遇权利的不平等性，父权制社会对女性的压制又是如何通过民俗被合法化，但女性又以自身的丰富性和辩证性抗拒着凝固为绝对法则的民俗陋俗。同时，也看到作者的男性身份使得文本并未完全表达出女性在典妻民俗下的生命体验。
