For the problems of short wall wedge pillar and upward mining of the upper coal seam after mining roadway pillar, combined with the conditions of the coal seam roof and floor, water, fire and gas, the feasibility of overhead mining is researched by using ratio determination, “three zones” discriminant theory, surrounding rock balance method and mathematical statistics, and the suggestions for may encountering situations are proposed.
