Smart Grid is a distributed system that consists of a series of intelligent units connecting to the grid.With the implementation of the smart grid,the amount of the critical information transmitting between FAN and IT devices are increasing greatly.The Smart Grid’s local area network presents a unique market in thefield of telecommunications. According to the current application and future development of European intelligent distribution network,5 technology options which are the most popular technologies for FAN deployments is introduced:PLC(power line carrier),BPL(broadband power line),private wireless(RF-radio frequency),public wireless(LTE/3G/GSM/GPRS)and WiMax.Communication technology plays a supporting and important role in the construction of smart grid.Therefore,the experiences from the development of communication technology in Europe’s distribution network intelligent development can be used as a reference for the construction of intelligent distribution network in China.
