耿建国教授提倡继承中医辨证论治思维，学术上法于仲景，师古而不泥于古，强调从整体上把握病家的阴阳盛衰、寒热虚实变化，强调上下两纲在辨证论治过程中的重要性，立法处方则以调整阴阳平衡为根本法则，因而能执简驭繁，卓有疗效。耿建国教授认为，临床辨证论治应当以阴阳为总纲，通过四诊合参，分析病家的寒热、虚实、上下等方面的属性，来归纳阴阳的变化，从而使阴阳由抽象到具体，再由具体到抽象。

Professor Geng advocates to inherit traditional thoughts of syndrome differentia-tion. His theory comes from Zhongjing but not limited by him. He emphasizes on differentiating the variation of Yin and Yang,cold and hot,asthenia and sthenia. He also emphasizes on the importance of basic program up and down in syndrome differentiation. He holds that regulating the yin - yang balance is the cardinal prin-ciple for prescription,which can help us to solve complex problems in a simple but efficient way. Professor Geng Jianguo puts forward Yin and Yang as the basic target in syndrome differentiation. Gathering information of cold and hot,asthenia and sthenia,up and down from patients by the Four Diagnostics,analyzing and indu-cing the change of Yin and Yang maKe the concretization of Yin and Yang,and also the abstraction for it. In this paper,some of Professor Geng Jianguo's experiences in syndrome differentiation are summarized,inclu-ding classical theories and clinical examples,which showed how to analyze and induce the change of yin and yang by differentiating cold and hot,asthenia and sthenia,up and down from patients.
