Independent colleges are at the lowest level of undergraduate education in China .They not only consti-tute the backbones of transforming elite education into mass education in China but also shoulder the task of cultiva -ting application-oriented talents .To that end , constant efforts must be made to improve the current educational pro-gram for training application-oriented talents and inject reformative and innovative ‘blood ’ into the existing talent cultivation mode in independent colleges .Multiple measures need to be adopted to fulfill that task , including chan-ging teachers’ educational concepts and innovating in teaching methods , aligning academic disciplines with local characteristics and needs , enhancing the quality of the teaching ranks , boosting students ’ employment capabilities , exploring multi-channel and multi-way talent cultivation mode based on collaborative innovation and cooperative ed-ucation.
