With the rapid growth of fossil energy consumption, pressure of carbon emission reduction becomes higher, and more attention has been paid to marine renewable energy power generation. Offshore wind energy, tidal energy, tidal current energy, wave energy, ocean thermal energy conversion and salinity gradient energy generation are discussed by taxonomic study. The worldwide resource distributions, developmental trajectories and current status are introduced and analyzed respectively. The obstructions hindering their wide scale exploitation and commercialization are also focused on, then some possible solutions, development trends and prospects are put forward. The severe situation of energy shortage, carbon emission and environmental pollution can be effectively alleviated by marine renewable energy power generation technology.
