The cultivation of modern citizens is a theme and strategic task of universities at the stage of transformation. The connotation of modern citizens is changing constantly, having en-dowed aesthetic education with more and more important respon-sibilities and means. Combined with the basic orientation of con-temporary society for citizenship, this paper elaborates the con-nection point between aesthetic education and the cultivation of contemporary citizenship in universities, and explores the new functions of aesthetic education. The aim is to develop the mod-ern meaning of aesthetic education.
