与普通话相比，常德方言有数量众多而且富有特色的副词。根据这些副词在句中的功能，它们大致可以分为表示程度的副词、表示重复或连续的副词、表示范围的副词、表示肯定、否定和估量的副词、表示情态的副词、表示方式的副词等7个类型。它们在句法功能上与普通话是大致相同的：修饰动词、形容词，充当状语、补语，能组合成某些固定的结构。随着时代的发展，这些方言词也存在逐渐消亡的态势。
