The installation of large-size studs is one important process of hydro-generator rotor installation, which will exert direct impact on rotor roundness and concentricity. For large hydropower generator-unit with high capacity, the rotor installation is more technically demanding. According to the structural characteristics of the hydro-generator rotor in Ludila Hydropower Sta-tion in Jinsha River, the large-size studs and heated pads are used in rotor assembly. The installation techniques of the large-size rotor studs for the hydropower generator-unit in Ludila Hydropower Station are introduced and so are the differences com-pared with the conventional techniques of thermal keying of rotor yoke, and the important and difficult points of large-size stud installation are explained. The installation techniques and methods applicable to large-size rotor studs for hydropower generator-units are summarized through the practice in Ludila Hydropower Station.
