The domestic hydro - conversion technologies of coal tar were inwestigated, all technologies were divided into 4 species, such as i. e. hydrofing of light fraction oil, hydrofing of phenol removal fraction oil, oil hydrogenation cracking-hydrogenation modification of oil and hydrofing of whole fraction oil. The process flow and actuality of each species were described separately. The research status of the sulfides of the metals as the active components of the catalysts were introduced and the influences of the type and the active mental, carrier and promoter were described. Combining with the characteristics of catalytic hydrogenation of coal tar, the research direction of denitrification catalysts was prospected. Some theoretical guidance for the research ( design) of coal tar hydro -refining catalyst was provided.
