20世纪80年代，随着“十年动乱”的结束，社会思想得以解放。1979年《故事会》第一期去掉刊名中的“革命”二字正式复刊，并迎来了第一个辉煌期，直线上升的发行量一度占据文化市场的半壁江山，形成期刊界的“《故事会》现象”。究其原因，除刊物自身因素外，主要还与1980年代对传统价值的回归有关。
