七下西洋的郑和享誉海内外，与其同时代的杰出外交家陈诚五使西域，建言“大明王朝应开放与西方诸国的双边贸易”，此举既能“消减边关之患”，更能“岁增巨赋，收百年之利”。作为明朝的友好使者，陈诚身上所体现出来的外交家行为和素质，以及代表明朝向西域各国传达向好亲睦之情，为促进中外文化交流与商业贸易发挥了积极作用，践行了“亲、诚、惠、容”中国传统外交理念，也为当前“政策沟通、道路联通、贸易畅通、货币流通和民心相通”的互联互通丝路精神奠定了历史渊源。

Chen Cheng, an extraordinary diplomat, contemporary with Zheng He, is world-famous for his seven voyages down the Western Seas. Chen Cheng once suggested that"the emperor of the Ming Dynasty should open bilateral trade with western countries",and explained that such practice would not only help"alleviate border disasters"but also"bring benefits for almost a century with a huge amount of tax annually". As an envoy of friendship in the Ming Dynasty, Chen Cheng displayed diplomatic style, and showed friendliness to western countries on behalf of the Ming Dynasty, which played a positive role in promoting cultural exchanges and commercial trade between China and foreign countries, embodied Chinese traditional diplomatic concepts of"amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness", and defined historical origin for today's Silk Road spirit in interconnection of policy communication, road connectivity, unimpeded trade, monetary circulation, understand between our people.
