This paper presents a discussion about the cultivation of foreign language talents, through which it can be shown that emphasis is to be laid on the improving of their comprehensive qualities. Only by this means can the talents of foreign languages adapt to the needs of the market and can be skilfuly integrated into the ranks of the technical personnel in engineering area and can be warmly welcomed by employers or employing units. Nevertheless, in order to achieve this aim, the three factors should be overcome to avoid their preventing coleges and universities from quality cultivation of foreign language talents. This paper presents a description of the three negative factors, which are firstly that the students are not good at their mother tongue, secondly that the foreign language majors are not good hands at basic knowledge of science and technology so much so that they can not do wel in such translation and thirdly that they are short of capability to do simultaneous interpreting. And at the same time this paper makes good suggestions on how to get rid of the three negative factors so as to cultivate talents that can satisfy the needs of the market without occupation shock.
