本文以归化与异化翻译理论为基础,选取中国古典名著?红楼梦?为个案,对中国岁时节令的英译进行尝试性研究。通过对?红楼梦?两个译本的比较,文章依据实例分析杨宪益和霍克斯在翻译过程中对归化和异化两种翻译策略的灵活使用,指出归化和异化是相互对立又是动态统一的关系,翻译时应该同时结合两者,以达到更好的文化交流的目的。

This paper makes a tentative research in the translation of traditional Chinese Festivals based on the translation theory of domestication and foreignization by taking Chinese classical novel Hong Lou Meng as an example. Through the contrast between the two translated versions of Hong Lou Meng, the author analy-zes the flexible application of two translation approaches, points out that these two have a relation of opposition and unification, and finally concludes that the combination of both domestication and foreignization is the best solution to achieve the goal of intercultural communication.
