Research status of coal-to-synthetic natural gas (SNG) process was summarized. The latest research progress of catalysts for catalytic gasification of coal-steam to produce SNG was reviewed, including classification of catalysts, influence of different catalysts on the carbon conversion and product gas composition, advantages and disadvantages of different catalysts in terms of activity and economic efficiency. The reasons to result in the catalyst deactivation were analyzed, and the methods of catalyst recycling are discussed. Finally, the research direction of the catalysts for coal-to-SNG process was presented.
