钱玄同、刘半农的“双簧信”，确实起到了推动文学革命向前发展的作用，但仅仅是引子。《新青年》同人共同演绎的一系列“双簧戏”的喧闹、新文学阵营在理论和创作上取得的丰硕成果，使林纾有些沉不住气。《国故》的创刊，又使林纾以为有了同盟军，从而促成了林纾的反击。于是，新旧思潮的激战真正开始，新文学思潮取得了决定性的胜利，初步扫除了阻碍新文学发展的障碍，加速了文学革命的进程。

The two man letters by Qian Xuan-tong and Liu Ban-nong,which did push forward the literature revolution, served only as an introduction.The noisy excitement deduced by the fellow workers of the New Youth and the theoretical and creative achievements of the new literature field,made Lin Shu lose his control of himself;and Lin Shu regarded the publication of Guo Gu as his ally,which made Lin Shu begin to fight back.Thus the fierce battle between the old and new ideological trends began.The new trend in literature won the decisive victory and the barriers against the development of new literature were cleared away,which sped up the progress of the literature revolution.
