Taking synchronous generator as an example, this paper proposes objection for characteristic naming of an electric machine, the new name is given, and 4 advantages of this new name are discussed:being good for express as the name implies;being good for revealing the connections between different characteristics;being good for revealing the common property of the six characteristics of a synchronous generator-all of them discussing relationships among the voltage, load and magnetism;being good for revealing the significance of the exciting cur-rent of the characteristics of a synchronous generator.
