回顾了前人对冠层结构和冠层光环境的描述，完善了冠层结构的定义并阐述了其生态学意义，剖析冠层结构对林下自然光照强度和分布的影响，综合了森林冠层结构和光环境对林内小气候特征及其与空气、土壤等其它环境因子之间相互关系的研究成果，概述了森林生态系统林下植被对光环境的响应。在已有的研究结果中总结光环境对森林生态系统中种子萌发、幼苗生长和林下植被分布格局的影响，以供国内同行参考。
