H+-pyrophosphatase is a proton pump distinguished from H+-ATPase, and exists widely in many organ-isms.Here we reviewed the progress on the structure and function of the vacuolar H+-pyrophosphatase genes and homologous genes, and the establishment of genetic transformation system of the gene in different plants.In addi-tion, we look forward to the prospects that the gene would be applied to genetic engineering of drought and salt tol-erance of plant.
