乔姆斯基的诸多语言学理论，尤其是转换生成语法，在语言学界颇具影响力，犹如生物学中的“达尔文革命”。该文从乔姆斯基语言学理论的哲学基础出发，进一步阐释其主要理论的内容。即区别了“语言能力”与“语言运用”这一对语言学中非常重要的概念，并提出了语言习得的“天赋论”假说，儿童天生就具有一种学习语言的能力。同时，他开创了转换生成语法，认为语言具有无限生成的能力。更重要的是，乔姆斯基的语言学理论给外语教学有诸多启示，促进了外语教学的发展。

many of Chomsky’s linguistic theories are very influential and overwhelming in the field of linguistics, especially the transformational-generative grammar, just as“the Darwinian revolution”in biology. In this paper, starting from the philosophical basis of his linguistic theory, then the author illustrates the main contents, that is, discriminating two important concepts of“linguis?tic competence”and“linguistic performance”, proposing the“innate hypothesis”of language acquisition which maintains that chil?dren are born with a kind of language learning capacity, and transformational-generative grammar. Most importantly, his theories have many implications on foreign language teaching, which have promoted the development of foreign language teaching.
