A new method for indoor measurement of compressor’s sound power level was introduced based on the latest standard ISO 3744. First of all, the acoustic environment requirement for measurement precision of grade 2 was explained according to the standard. Then, a method for evaluation of indoor environment correction factor K2 was introduced. The hemisphere measurement method with 6 measurement points introduced in Appendix F of the standard was applied to measure the factor K2 of a room. Afterwards, the difference between the estimated K2 and measured K2 was obtained. Finally, the wall of this room was covered by foams to reduce the sound reflection of the wall surface, and the factor K2 was estimated and measured again. The results show that the factor K2 of the room with covering foams on all the walls can meet the requirement in the latest standard. This improved room can also meet the requirement of indoor sound power measurement prescribed in European Directive 2000/14/EC.
