With the rapid development of Chinese information technology and network technology, telecom operators wil face a chalenge of operation and maintenance management of the massive home gateway products. Based on the principle of IGMP, this paper proposes a practical scheme which uses the multicast technology for the upgrade of the home gateway ifrmware and XML conifguration. Also, it introduces the key technical points involved in multicast upgrade scheme in detail, updates the new design of IGMP protocol processing state machine, and provides the upgrading conifguration steps and functional testing items. It is a useful reference for telecom operators to smoothly and quickly upgrade the ifrmware version and XML conifguration of the appropriate devices in operation and maintenance management.
